PURPOSE STATEMENT FOR OUR YOUTH PROGRAM
PURPOSE - There are many ideas concerning the curriculum, purpose and activities of a youth program. The purpose of the JPBC Wednesday night youth program is simple. It is founded in Christ’s command to make disciples (Matthew 28:19). Our purpose is to disciple our youth so that they, ü Develop a lifelong commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ, ü Nurture that commitment in the local church, ü And, as ambassadors of Christ, display the fruit of the Spirit so that men will see their good works and glorify their Father in heaven.
ASSUMPTIONS - In achieving this purpose, we are making several assumptions ü A youth program disconnected and separate from the body and functions of the church is unbiblical and does not nurture commitment in a local church. ü The youth group is a part of the church and meets the same overall objectives of the church. ü Just because we are believers, does not automatically mean our children will become believers.
OBJECTIVES & GOALS - To achieve our overall purpose we have several objectives and goals.
OBJECTIVE 1 - See the youth founded in Christ and moving towards a mature faith. Goal 1: Emphasize personal devotional habits in the Bible. Goal 2: Weekly meeting for Bible Study and prayer. Goal 3: Regular attendance in worship services of the church Goal 4: Have the parents and church regularly praying for our children.
OBJECTIVE 2 - Prepare our young people to share Christ with those in their world. Goal 1: Have each adult and youth prepare their personal testimony. Goal 2: Provide an annual mission experience that involves outreach and evangelism.
OBJECTIVE 3 - Strengthen the youth’s relationship with their parents and other Christian adults. Goal 1: Encourage parents and other adults to be present for all public meetings of church. Goal 2: Have regular activities that involve adults and the youth. Standard 1 - Have at least one church-wide social activity per quarter. Standard 2 - Encourage regular mentoring program
OBJECTIVE 4 - Provide consistent and regular opportunities to minister within the church Goal 1: The leadership of the church will seek ways to develop and incorporate our young people into ministries of the church. Goal 1: Have the youth become involved in at least one church ministry.
